Malik Padgett is a former banker turned author, educator, and public speaker, and is in the latter stages of finalizing his Doctorate of Education (EdD) at Nova Southeastern University. With a concentration in Organizational Leadership, education and self-awareness are precious commodities that Malik believes should be preserved, and freedom of expressing these values, should be protected for future generations. Malik stalwartly affirms that every good leader should aspire to be a greater student, meaning that the voyage of life is about engrossing knowledge along the journey that we endeavor to attain, while never wholly arriving at its final destination. Malik imagines mentorship as the foundation for building relationships through transformational leadership, while at the same time, embracing the values of ethical principles established through conviction, mutual respect, and integrity. At present, Malik possesses a double major: a Bachelor of Sociology and Legal and Policy Studies from Fordham University, and a Master of Science in International Real Estate from Florida International University.
Malik is an unfaltering activist for the support of equality in education, fiercely advocating that education is the key to transforming lives. More valued than personal attainment, impartiality and service to others should be the fundamental values we seek. In our pursuit of self-realization, the world that centers around each of us, must be more about encompassing the united strengths we collectively possess, instead of the minor differences that prevent human cohesion. Lastly, in the pursuit of justice, Malik maintains that rehabilitated lives challenge systems of oppression, racial and social disparities, and foster environments that support parity and equity among all, for the benefit of all.
"Sociology is supposed to be value-free. If we take a value-laden position at the onset, we will see what we want to see. We will bias our findings. We will compromise objectivity and call everything we do as sociologists into question. Norms are based on values. Human cultures solve functional problems, however, functional problems rest on a foundation of values."
